Twice each year, MACPA offers a $1,500 internship to member papers. An internship can be beneficial to not only the intern, but your paper and the Free Paper Industry as well! Many college students in a field of study relating to our industry only consider ad agencies, television, radio, or paid newspapers because they are unaware of the opportunities the free paper industry can provide them. Let’s help them learn what is so great about the free paper industry!
The Bill Mitten Memorial Internship Program was named after William E. Mitten. He was the Founder and Chairman of the Board of The Windsor Press, which he started from his home’s basement with two full-time and 4 part-time employees. Bill Mitten had a vital role in the Independent Free Paper of America, AFCP, and PAAP (now MACPA). Bill Mitten had a passion for his business that we hope can be passed on to interns of this program. Applicants for this internship must be undergraduate students enrolled in an accredited College or Vocational School and majoring in Marketing, Journalism, or a subject related to the free paper industry.
The Charles Mulligan Memorial Internship Program for Graphic Designers was named in honor of Charles Mulligan, founder of Mulligan Printing Corp. in 1976. He was a man with drive, integrity, and immense talent in the printing world who valued all relationships he made and provided everything he could for his friends, family, and business. Applicants for this internship must be undergraduate students enrolled in an accredited College or Vocational School and majoring in Graphic Design.
If you would like to submit an application for the Bill Mitten Memorial Internship or Charles Mulligan Memorial Internship, all applications need to be submitted by May 1 for an internship from July – December and November 1 for January – June. Only one Bill Mitten Memorial Internship and Charles Mulligan Memorial Internship will be awarded per period to a MACPA member paper of good standing. The member paper that receives the internship agrees to host an intern for at least 360 work hours, to apply all of the $1,500 of internship money to the intern’s salary, and to pay all income taxes, Social Security, and Worker’s Compensation costs. The internship award will be rewarded once proof of the 360 work hours is received. Applicants for the internship must be undergraduate students in an accredited college or vocational school and are majoring in the required subject(s).
